Colonial Hot Ale Flip

When a friend sends you an article about a drink but says she is not certain about the whole egg thing, I'm going to try it. This was not the recipe I planned to make as my first vintage recipe in my new place but it was interesting, a Colonial Hot Ale Flip. Oldest recipe I've tried.
Here's the article: Make a Colonial American Cocktail With Ale, Rum, and Fire.
I have made cocktails with egg before so that didn't bother me. My preference is just egg whites. The yokes give drinks an odd flavor that I don't care for. I'm not a beer drinker but this has spices. I like spices!

For the spice mixture, I boiled a little water with brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Smells so good!

The beer had to be at room temperature and flat so I let it sit all day.

Since I didn't have an open flame conveniently setting nearby, I opted for the stovetop method. One cup with spiced syrup and rum and another with frothy egg.
I think beer stinks. Now my kitchen is filled with steamy beer. Yuck.
Added the steamy beer to the spiced rum at the sink. You must be at the sink! there is no way to do this without making a mess. It says to pour the mixture from the rum glass to the egg glass and back and forth quickly to mix everything. So gross looking!
The finished product is not that bad looking!
Since Dylan was here, I had to share. Don't feel sorry for him! I also made his favorite cookies. This will not be recipe that I will probably ever make again. Not that good. Surprisingly, I was not that bad either. I tasted more of the spices whereas Dylan got more of the flat beer taste. The creaminess of the eggs got to me...and the beer. (I probably shouldn't make something with a main ingredient that I don't like but I'm a sucker for new things.)

My Rating: Interesting to taste but I could never drink a full glass.

Dylan Rating: No. I love trying your recipes but no. All I taste is flat beer. Can I pour it out?
